Polartec® Fleece

The primary insulation layer among experienced outdoor enthusiasts for nearly two decades, Polartec® fabrics are available in a variety of unique textures and weights designed specifically to enhance performance in a variety of environs.
Polartec® Classic 100, 200 and 300: Available in a lightweight, midweight, and heavyweight fleece, each of these Polartec® Classic series fabrics provide warmth, comfort and breathability. Polartec® 100 weight fabrics are the lightest fleece in the series, and are an excellent choice for a warm first layer. Polartec® 200 provides optimal warmth and versatility in a midweight, soft fleece. Polartec® 300 fabrics are the heaviest option, providing a thermal layer to wear on very cold excursions.

Polartec® Power Stretch®: Ideal for aerobic activities, the durable nylon layer of this fabric is both wind and abrasion resistant, keeping you dry, warm, and comfortable in difficult outdoor conditions. Extremely breathable and quick drying, this body-hugging, four-way stretch fabric keeps your skin dry through three complementary mechanisms: (1) The fabric is highly breathable and does not restrict moisture vapor from escaping, (2) “Touch Points” on the fabric’s inner surface wick the moisture off your skin, moving it to the outside where it can evaporate, and (3) When the sweat reaches the outside of the fabric, it spreads out to many times its original surface area, enabling it to dry at least two times faster than cotton.

Zip-In Feature

The North Face mid-layers can be zipped to the inner zipper of many shells to create a single, insulating, cold-weather jacket for challenging conditions.

Many of our jackets and vests zip into each other to create a one-piece insulated outer layer. Simply look for the zip-in compatible icon.

-Zip-in one of our fleece or insulated styles into one of our shell jackets to create a one-piece insulated outer layer - you pick the pieces to fit the conditions.

-Compatible zipper lengths match up the outer shell with the insulating layer.

-Jacket cuffs are secured together with a loop and snap closure system to prevent shifting and twisting

Pit -Zips

Pit-zips allow body heat to dissipate from your body’s core and armpits, allowing increased ventilation that keeps you cooler and more comfortable. Our pit-zips have protective double flaps to keep out moisture.

The North Face’s zip-in system is featured on many of our shell jackets. Layering (by adding or removing garments to control temperature) is the most effective way to stay comfortable in a range of weather conditions and activities. Fast and easy layering is taken to new levels with our zip-in technology.

The quilted flannel lining is the perfect lining for those who choose not to layer but still need something with tremendous warmth. The quality of warmth comes from the 100% brushed polyester tricot quilted to polyester.

Goose Down Fills

Using only the highest quality Hungarian goose down in all of our products, each lot of down is thoroughly tested at three stages of production for loftiness, moisture resistance, and ability to regain loft after compression. The fill power of goose down is an indicator of two important features: warmth-to-weight ratio and compressibility; both critical to retain warmth and furnish comfort. True fill power is measured by placing one ounce of goose down in a graduated cylinder and measuring the volume the down occupies in cubic inches. The North Face products are insulated with exclusive, high-fill power goose down ranging from 550 to 900 fill, which represents the highest-quality down commercially available.

900 Fill Down: Highest quality down commercially available. One ounce of this down expands to fill a volume of 900 cubic inches - the highest volume available. The lightest and most compressible down with the best warmth-to-weight ratio, 900 fill down is exclusive to The North Face.

800+ Fill Down: Outstanding warmth in a lightweight package with a high cluster-to-feather ratio. Increased loft than lesser fill downs, and added compressibility for superior warmth and performance.

700 Fill Down: Superior insulation in a lightweight design for bitterly cold excursions.

600 Fill Down: Strong warmth-to-weight ratio providing lightweight insulation across a range of temperatures.

550 Fill Down: Lightweight insulation with a high weight-to-warmth ratio.

It Goes In Through One Side and Out the Other . . . I’m talking about a NEW technology by The North Face that helps regulate your body temperature.

One of the most important functions of Flight Series Outerwear is to regulate body temperature. This is especially critical during aerobic activity in varying conditions. TNF has achieved success in thermal regulation through a technique of applying windproof fabrics on the front of garments and breathable fabrics on the back panels. Read the rest of this entry » »
